China Spice in Yorkville is Fabulous Gourmet Chinese

Get off your duff Yorkville and patronize this place. Sometimes the best things are right under your nose.

My husband and I took a little trip to China Spice around the corner tonite. We didn't get past the fantastic  appetizers. This is not your stardard NYC Chinese restaurant. It's one cut above. I'd call it Gourmet Chineese.

The egg rolls were the best I have ever tasted. And I have eaten a lot of eggs roles in my time. The tempura shrimp were presented on a fab decorative square plate with lemon slices. They were crispy and light... perfect for a hot day. We also had the Szechuan wontons which  came in a really creamy spicy red sauce that I kept pouring on everything.

Even the chicken wings were light, crispy and the perfect size.

My husband and I are appetizer fans and I can't wait to try some more. The couple who sat next to us raved about the crab Ragooon.

Go.Try. Eat. YUM

Perfume shopping Revolutionized!!

Finally.. the day we have all been waiting for has arrived. The act of shopping for perfume has been revolutionized by one of my favorite stores...L'Occitane on 86th street and 3rd avenue in Manhattan.

Check out the cones!!!

Simply lift one up, take a sniff and move on to the next. No spray no mess.

Gone are the days of spraying  scents on various parts of your arms and irritating your nose to a point where it is impossible to distinguish one scent from another.

Bravo L'Occitane!!!!!!

Village Voice Girl

Yep...You can't know New York until you've met the Village Voice. The best free paper in the world....according to me.

Hurricane Sandy and Kay Hall

In my bubble on the Upper East Side I am freaking out by the lack of food on the shelves. The only time that I have ever seen this image is in post apocalyptic sci-fi movies when things are about to go terribly wrong.

I think about what it must be like to be in the dark, freezing without heat or water and ever worse NO COMMUNICATION.

Here's and idea REINSTATE PAY PHONES at least people could make a call even without power. Pay phones should be mandatory and on each block.

I was in NYC during the Blackout many years ago but it was summertime and people were outside talking and supporting one another. What about people who cannot go outside, children, pregnant women, those that are alone or need medication?

I can tell you this. The WORST thing is lack of communication. People need to be reassured right now!!! Hell... I need to be reassured. That's why I made this little video.

Helene W. Hartig The Best Real Estate Lawyer In New York City

Kay Hall- Photography by Kay Hall
Helene  W. Hartig is without question (in my opinion) the best Real Estate Lawyer in Manhattan.  What makes this one so special is that she takes a sincere and personal interest in her clients situation.

I report these facts based on first hand experience. She pulled me up from the gutter at one of the most difficult times in my life with compassion and a touch of real life grounding. If it wasn't for her staunch determination to represent me as a client and the courage to kick some sense into me I would have lost my home.

Trust is one of the fundamental things that we look for when retaining an attorney.  Helene W. Hartig inspires such trust because it is simply a part of her nature.

It was a real privilege to experience what the best of a lawyer really can be. This one is a keeper and if you choose to work with her for Real Estate or personal Estate issues you will experience something positive, nurturing, wonderful with a pit bull spirit for your cause.
You will  never crack a bad lawyer joke again.

All the best my friend Helene.....

Best Pharmacy on the Upper East Side

There is no question in my mind that the BEST PHARMACY on the Upper East Side is the Drug Mart on 86th and York avenue. If you have the smarts to experience this jewel of a pharmacy you will receive a personal and warm service.

The jewel at this pharmacy is a  pharmacist named Sylvia. She goes over and beyond  the call of duty for her customers.  It's like you're family. Give it a try!!As a bonus you will be supporting a local business.

Yes, that's a beer can in her ear LOL. It's a beer can earring! You can get yours at the local beer store. Drink your jewelery accessory and kill two birds with one stone. I suggest you drink the beer before you attempt this at home.
Who knows it might catch on. Send me pics of your beer can jewelery.

House of the Redeemer

Every year Peter G. Pereira donates a piece of art to the House of the Redeemer located at 5 East 95th street. They host a garden party and silent auction in early June. And what my ask is this place? Well, this is the home of the Episcopalian nuns in NYC. It's also a wonderful place for a retreat in NYC.

Gardening at the Carl Schurz Park

These beauties can be found right at the entrance of the park. I'm not sure what they are so I'll need your help.
The purple flowers at the rear seem to be part of a bush tree thing.

U.E.S.Sightings #24

While walking down 86th street the other day I saw these wonderful young men carrying what looked like palm leaves. They stopped me and said Suka. This is a Jewish holiday that I know very little about.

Happy New Year to my Jewish Friends.

I just want to wish all my Jewish friends a very happy new year. I'm dipping a slice of apple in some honey right now!! (For those who don't know that act symbolizes the sweetness of the New Year to come). Everyone should try it...you can't go wrong.
And P.S. What a beautiful day! I'm headed over the museum with Peter.

U.E.S. Gossip Insider

Mr Young owns the K.Y. Grocery on 83rd and York. He's been running the place for 30 years. Just recently however Mr. Young began to tire of pointing and yelling when asked for the location of refrigerated items. Consequently, he has devised a brilliant system. Mr. Young has now placed numbers on all the doors of his refrigerator and is exceedingly proud of his discovery. So when you go to the K.Y. Grocery please ask for an item and then ask for the door number.... it only took him 30 years in business to figure it out! LOL

The art show at Logos last night was a huge success. Set in the back garden these pieces just flew off the walls. At $20.00 for a small signed print people who had never bought a piece of art before perused the collection like budding art collectors. It was a magical experience. Bravo Peter!

Local Celebrity Loves Art

Harris Healy the owner of one on the last independent bookstores in North America stands in front of his special shop to announce an art show. The show is of artist Peter G. Pereira and is in a style called "abstract surreal painting". It's a combination of photography, painting and CAD. And it was inspired by the flowers in the Carl Schurz Park!

This is what it's about folks. Keep it local...keep it real!

If you can get yourself down to the Church of the Epiphany on 74th and York Tuesday night at 6:30 you will be treated to a free large screen version of "The Mission". This is a great way for anyone thinking about church or going to church to introduce yourself in an informal way.
